Herons, ibis, egrets, anhingas, turtles, and alligators are frequently spotted on the canal. In order to find bald eagles and osprey, the trip moves on to one of the Harris Chain lakes. Join your family or friends on a pontoon boat for a nature excursion. The two-hour excursion will take you on a journey along the well-known Dora Canal, dubbed “the most beautiful mile of water in the world.” Certified captains and crew will happily offer stories and local knowledge of the area throughout the tour in addition to the history, flora, and fauna. Be on the lookout for native fauna such alligators, bald eagles, turtles, anhingas, and herons.
A wide range of boat tours and rentals, seaplane trips, and water sports of all kinds, from wakeboarding and wake skiing to skiing and tubing, are available at Lake Dora. Brian E. Young, director of events and promotions at Visit Mount Dora, Inc., claims that the area’s lovely Lake Dora provides a variety of scenic tours through covered pontoon boats, seaplanes, kayaks, or CatBoats. On any of the tours available, “you will experience the nature and the history of the waterway in an amazing way.”
The two-hour Adventure Cat Boat Tours put you in control of a two-person micro catamaran after receiving some training from the pros, of course. The 80-foot Dora Queen paddlewheel boat, which departs from the neighbouring town of Tavares and provides two-hour tours replete with live music and refreshments on board, is a slower-paced option for cruising.
Gilbert Park, Palm Island Park, & Grantham Point
All these 3 parks are situated in Mount Dora. first of all The Gilbert Park, a lovely park nestled on Lake Dora’s edge. Both tourists and locals are welcomed by a brilliantly painted lighthouse, lots of parking for boaters, and big shade trees. This is a charming location in Mt. Dora, Florida, where locals bring visitors to showcase how great Mt. Dora is. Here, memories and prom and wedding photos are created. Along with a few alligators, birdwatchers might glimpse osprey, bald eagles, Great grey herons, or spoonbills. Sunsets look beautiful from this location.
Now here is about Palm Island Park, a pleasant, spacious boardwalk runs alongside Lake Dora and through an old-growth forest. It is pram and wheelchair accessible. Although it isn’t very long, there are multiple stairs from the boardwalk that lead to well-travelled dirt pathways that can be explored further. Anhingas, coots, blue herons, etc. were all present. Parking is available nearby, however we had to circle a few times before finding a spot.
Here is a little bit about Grantham Point. This small park includes easy parking and a few shaded benches near the Palm Island Boardwalk. There is also a small trail that leads to a red and white lighthouse on a point that is inoperable and has chairs in the shade. It is a lovely escape from urban growth and still very close to town.
Mount Dora market place
A wonderful brewery is located inside the Mount Dora Marketplace, which is a really fun site to visit. The Marketplace, which is situated in the centre of the city, is home to vendors selling genuine foods from cultures including Asian, Mexican, Lebanese, and Greek. Also nearby are a bakery and a French creperie that we adore.
Fun location with a variety of food options, including breads and wonderful soft pretzels from European Breads; savoury and sweet crepes from Claire’s Crepes (we tried the strawberry with chocolate); cheese plates to enjoy with wine at The Cellar Door across the street; Funko’s Poke Bowls; and WolfBranch Brewery, which brews entertaining craft beers. The 5-year-old happily munched on his pretzel while we browsed. a wonderful location that will please every family member.
